Monday 19th August 2013 - Houston, Texas - The Red Bull BC One North American Finals put on an exciting display last night as 16 of the most established North American B-Boys went head-to-head in an intense round of battles. It was eventually determined in front of the capacity audience at Warehouse Live in Houston that B-Boy Gravity of Brooklyn, New York is the champion
Having established its roots in NYC in the late 1970’s, the 16 B-Boys took every chance they could to show how far the dance movement has come at the North American Red Bull BC One Finals. Following four rounds of fierce competition, B-Boy Gravity triumphed and earned his ticket to Seoul, South Korea, to compete this November for the world championship title.
Tens of thousands of fans tuned into the live web broadcast while several hundred packed into the venue to support the B-Boys in round after round of some of the most competitive battles seen yet. Gravity stormed to the Final on Saturday night with a series of explosive moves and technical displays, taking down Lancer of San Diego, CA in the first round; winning a tough battle over Jeremy of Houston, TX in the second round; followed by a hard-fought controversial battle versus Flexum of Santa Rosa, CA in the semi-finals. The final battle against B-Boy Ben of Las Vegas was tight, but Gravity, known for his dynamic aerobatic style, took home the prize based upon an impressive display of power moves and intricate footwork.
The all-star panel of judges, featuring Wicket, El Nino and Pelezinho, scored each competitor based on originality, technique and stage presence. Rakaa Iriscience emceed the event while DJ Skeme Richards provided beats for the breakers throughout the battle. Houston B-Boy crew HaviKORO treated the audience to a passionate dance performance filled with emotion.
The complete line up of North American finalists included B-Boy Ben (Las Vegas, NV), Dang (Houston, TX), Flexum (Santa Rosa, CA), Gravity (Brooklyn, NY), Jeremy (Houston, TX), Kareem (Sacramento, CA), Keebz (McAllen, TX), KNUCKLES (Philadelphia, PA), Lancer (San Diego, CA), Lil Rock (Fullerton, CA), MIJO (Milwaukee, WI), NastyRay (San Jose, CA), Starvin Sa-Ewl (Rialto, CA), Vicious (Montreal, Canada), VicNice (Orlando, FL), and Whorah (New York, NY).
The excitement is mounting with four more qualifying Finals to come: Middle East Africa (August 30th); Western Europe (September 14th); Eastern Europe (September 28th); and Asia Pacific (October 12th). The winner of each will join B-Boys Arex (Latin America); Gravity (North America) and all eight past champions at the milestone Red Bull BC One World Finals, taking place on November 30th in Seoul, South Korea.
