Lucky children from two Epsom schools had a very special swimming lesson, with double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington today.

Adlington put 20 children from Epsom and Ewell High School and Rosebery School, through their paces in a two hour training session at the Rosebery School pool.

British Gas is the principal partner of British Swimming and offered the training session with Adlington as a prize in a competition amongst its staff last year.

Christian Doran, who lives in Dorking, won the prize and donated it to the children of Epsom and Ewell High School. The formerly failing school, which was in Ofsted special measures just 18 months ago, has been completely transformed and is currently rated as ‘good with outstanding features’.

Epsom and Ewell High School doesn’t have a swimming pool of its own so cannot offer swimming lessons, but a number of pupils are keen club swimmers who train at the Rainbow Leisure Centre in Epsom.

The special swimming session took place at neighbouring Rosebery School, which offered the use of its pool. Therefore, children from both schools shared this experience.
